Telkom is a South African wireline and wireless telecommunications provider, operating in more than 38 countries across the African continent. Telkom is South Africa’s biggest provider of communication services for mobile, home and business. As well as ADSL, Fiber, Wireless broadband and mobile internet services.
A complete solution was built–establishing the organisational structure, implementing guardrails, automating security scanning, ensuring all IP tunnels were used, and creating a compliant Project Factory. A network setup audit was also conducted. Telkom needed to create new Google Cloud Platform projects that conformed to a particular design, network configuration and security guardrails. They needed a GCP Project Factory that would “templatise” the creation of GCP projects and provide the requisite access and network topology "out of the box" without engineering and security teams' interventions.
We built a Project Factory using Google Cloud products and services like Google Workspace, Private VPC Endpoints, Google BigQuery, and Cloud Storage. By using Private VPC Endpoints, we established secure private connections, which allowed secure access to cloud resources. Google BigQuery was used for data analytics and warehousing, and Cloud Storage for managing data. Not only did we migrate projects into the new structure, but now anyone at Telkom can use GCP knowing that it complies with their specific security and networking requirements, all the while ensuring that billing alerts and quotas are in place to ensure projects run within budget.
